Maldives has the type of democracy Maldivians want – That is the perfect democracy: President

President Yameen have said that Maldives has the style of democracy Maldivians want and that it is the perfect type of democracy.



Speaking at a ceremony held last night to award, tickets to MDA candidates who are running in the local council elections, the President said that democracy does not have a fixed set of values and in each country, it is accepted in a manner which the majority of the population desires. He said that hence, the concept of democracy is not universal.







In addition, he said that even if a referendum was held even now, majority of the people will support his economic policies and will refuse to support for homosexuality and freedom of religion. He said that democracy basically means what the majority of the country wants and no other country has the right to judge how democratic Maldives is.







The president said that since, Maldives follows what the majority of Maldivians wants, no one can say that Maldives is undemocratic. He said that Maldives is very democratic and it is in a style preferred by the people of Maldives.
