President Yameen have said that today the gavel that should be tapped to protect the state have been used to break the whole state and the country should bow down in shame because of this.
In a ceremony held last night at MNDF HQ to mark the anniversary of MNDF, the president said that things like this will give a bad name for the whole country. He said that the attacks to the Maldivian state is not from afar but from within and that it is a matter of great concern.
President Yameen said that some people who are living abroad are giving a bad name to the country and causing problems for the country. He said that such people take no responsibility for their actions. He said that such people are doing these things in the name of democracy and that is why they get sympathy from foreigners. He said that liberalism a concept of democracy includes freedom of religion.
He said that however Maldives is among one of the 13 countries in the world where leaving Islam is a criminal offence and hence he does not think that anyone who is responsible will give any attention to such calls asking for freedom of religion.
President Yameen said that so far, Maldivian have protected their civilization and culture, and Maldivians should have that right even now.
