Problems in electricity provision occurs because MDP government did not invest in resource development: President



President Abdullah Yameen have stated that various problems in electricity provision occurs from time to time because MDP failed to invest in resource development.





The president said that while he was the chairman of STELCO board, he continued to develop the facilities of STELCO. He said that however this process was not continued and hence various problems occur today.





In addition, the president said that it is not possible to provide electricity at the same price as it was provided when a liter of diesel was 3 Rufiyaa. He said that now the price of diesel is 8 Rufiyaa per liter.





President Yameen said that those who deserve the subsidy gets subsidies even now. He said that subsidies have been cut from some services so that some basic services can be provided for free. He noted that while electric subsidies were cut, the government spent 800 million Rufiyaa last year alone to provide free health care. He said that subsidies are given based on what the people needs the most.
