MTCC CEO Ibrahim Ziyath has stated that ferries that run to Hulhumale’ cannot be increased during peak times as there is no space in Male’ port.
Speaking to Miadhu, Ziyath said even now some ferries are forced to stay in the area, without docking due to lack of space.
He said that some discussions have been held to analyze the option of docking in the major port, but this represented bigger challenge to customers and the company in terms of coordination.
ZIyath said the biggest issue was the issue of transporting motorcycles during peak hours, adding that they were in the process of bringing a solution.
“We’re analyzing the option of leasing motorcycles and bicycles from Hulhumale’. This will drastically reduce the number of cycles and then not all will insist on takin cycles,” he said.
Ziyath added that three premium ferries will be introduced to the Male’ Vilimale’ route, as part of expanding and improving the operation.
“Ferries were delayed due to an issue with boat builders, but the service will be started in December. This will drastically change Vilimale’ ferry service,”
MTCC had introduced two premium ferries to Hulhumale’ route, with one more to be introduced later on. Ziyath said major investments to Hulhumale’ sector cannot be made as of now, without analyzing the changes that will happen when bridge project is concluded.
