The Maldives is set to host the Regional Green Economy Forum 2026, a high-level international gathering aimed at accelerating sustainable development and climate action across the Asia-Pacific region.
The forum will be held from 29 to 30 July at Kurumba Maldives and is being organised by the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy in partnership with the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS).
Held under the theme "Shaping a Sustainable and Resilient Future for the Asia-Pacific," the forum will bring together government leaders, ministers, international organisations, financial institutions, private sector representatives, innovators, environmental experts, civil society organisations and local government representatives to strengthen regional cooperation and promote practical solutions for a greener future.
The Regional Green Economy Forum serves as a collaborative platform to accelerate the transition towards sustainable and resilient economies across the Asia-Pacific. Through high-level discussions, ministerial dialogues and multi-stakeholder engagement, participants will explore ways to translate global climate commitments into concrete action while strengthening partnerships and mobilising investment for sustainable development.
Special emphasis will be placed on the needs of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and coastal economies. Discussions will focus on attracting green investment, strengthening public-private partnerships, promoting sustainable finance, advancing digital and technological innovation, and expanding blue economy pathways as part of broader efforts to build climate resilience and sustainable economic transformation.
The forum will also support the implementation of regional sustainable development priorities while contributing to the Asia-Pacific's preparations for the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP31, and the World Green Economy Summit 2026. It is also expected to help advance the region's Blue Economy Roadmap through collaborative initiatives and knowledge sharing.
The inaugural Regional Green Economy Forum was held in Tangier, Morocco, last year under the theme "Carbon Neutral Cities." Building on that foundation, this year's event will expand regional dialogue by showcasing innovative solutions and encouraging stronger collaboration among governments, businesses, international organisations and development partners.
The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has opened registration for participants through a QR code shared on its social media platforms and has invited stakeholders from across the region to take part in the forum.
The Government says hosting the Regional Green Economy Forum reflects the Maldives' continued commitment to international climate leadership and its efforts to promote sustainable, resilient and inclusive development across the Asia-Pacific region.
