Sheikh Ahmed Sameer has said many of the good values of Islam are present in the Maldives.

In spite of this, he said there were many characteristics and values that are stressed on in Islam present in the Maldivian society.
He noted that Maldivians were of one sect, a trait that is not present even in Saudi Arabia.
“There could be a person but they are hidden,” Sheikh Sameer said, adding that being of one faith and sect was a true blessing.
Sheikh Ali Zahir bin Saeed Qasim noted that in nations such as Pakistan, due to sectarian beliefs marked Eid and Ramadan on different days.
“Following one principle on religious issues is vital. In cases such as moon sightings, it is prudent to follow the precedent set by the authorities, for the fear of causing divide,” he said.
He added that ruling on such issues was the duty of the state and that the public should accept it.
