Civil Service Commission President Dr. Ali Shameem has stated that the Commission was engaged in discussions with the Government on increasing the pay for civil service employees.
Dr. Shameem made the statement in his address given on the occasion of the Civil Service Day.
Dr. Shameem said there have been no increments made on either salaries or benefits for seven years and that the Commission was working to rectify the situation.
He also revealed that study loans will soon be released to those employees wishing to begin their higher studies. Dr. Shameem said the loan will be leased through Bank of Maldives.
Reflecting on the aspirations of the civil service sector employees, Dr. Shameem said the biggest concern for the employees was the lack of home ownership. He said he hoped that a housing scheme for civil service employees will soon be announced by the Government. He also added that professionally run day care services for working mothers in the civil service sector was vital, adding that he hoped such a service will be introduced soon.
He appealed to members of public to lend their support and encouragement, while civil service employees were implementing the plans to improve public sector service. He also appealed to civil service employees to exercise patience, professionalism and compassion while fulfilling their mandate.
