United Nations representative in the Maldives Shoko Noda has stated that higher education and job maintenance were key to female empowerment and breaking the glass ceiling.
She made the statement giving the keynote address in the graduation ceremony of MAPS college held in Dharubaaruge.
Noda said the number of women in the workforce in the country was high but the number of women in decision making level were relatively low, especially in the field of politics.
She said perseverance in the job field was also crucial, adding that she herself had started in a minor position. Noda added that dedication had helped her along the way, noting that she was now the UN representative to the Maldives.
Noda had commended the dedication demonstrated by the huge number of youth engaged in higher studies while working full time. She also noted the work carried out by MAPS college in providing higher education in spite of their limited resources.
