The Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Hospitality Apprenticeship programme – the longest running and most successful of its kind in the Indian Ocean – is gearing up for another impressive graduation and inauguration ceremony; including the programme’s first ever ‘Surf’ graduates.
The graduation ceremony will take place on April 10, 2016 at 10 am at the National Art Gallery, Male in the presence of Mr. Moosa Zameer, Minister of Tourism, Mr. Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Mohamed Shainee, Minister of Fisheries & Agriculture, and Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Environment & Energy.
Now in its fourteenth year, the programme’s Class of 2016 comprises 52 first year graduates (30 from Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru and 22 from Four Seasons Resort Kuda Huraa) including the programme’s first ever ‘Surf’ graduates – a discipline introduced in 2016 in conjunction with luxury surf pioneers, Tropicsurf, plus 6 second year graduates: 3 from Engineering and 3 from Front Office.
In addition to celebrating the achievements of the Class of 2016, the event will also mark the inauguration of the Class of 2017, which comprises 64 first year apprentices plus 4 embarking on second year programmes.
This year’s recruitment drive saw senior Four Seasons staff visit 12 islands to interview 307 candidates from a total of 58 different home islands in search of eager young Maldivians for the immersive on-site course – recognised in 2010 as the Maldives first TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) certified Apprenticeship scheme.
Commenting on the upcoming graduation – and ongoing success of the course – Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Regional Vice President, Armando Kraenzlin, said: “The fact that the Four Seasons Hospitality Apprenticeship programme continues to thrive, year on year, is testament to the breadth of talent, commitment and enthusiasm of the Maldivian youth, many of whom are intent on making an early mark on the hospitality industry. They are a credit to their country and it remains a huge privilege to be able to champion them and set them on their way to what we hope, for most, will be a successful lifelong career.”
The programme is open to male and female Maldivians, aged 17-20, who meet a number of entry criteria including O-level certifications and fluency in both written and spoken English. No previous work experience is required and apprentices both live and work at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives, training in Resort operations five days a week, with theory classes one day a week. Performance appraisals and tests are taken at regular intervals across the offered disciplines of Food & Beverage Preparation or Service, Safe Maritime Transport & Engineering, Housekeeping, Guest Services & Front Office, PADI Dive Master, Water Sports Attendant, Marine Biology and, new for 2016, Surf.
