MALDIVIAN ARTISTS TO PERFORM IN ARTS AND CRATFS FESTIVAL IN INDIA
Twenty Maldivian artists would be visiting India from February 1-15 with the support of High Commission of India, Male to participate in the 30thSurajkund International Arts and Crafts festival. This includes 14 Boduberu artists from Bidhabin Boduberu group and 6 craftswomen from Association of Lady Entrepreneurs and Addu Woman’s Association. This would be the first time such a large contingent of Maldivian artists is travelling to India.
High Commissioner of India to Maldives Mr. Akhilesh Mishra met the artists during a felicitation ceremony at the India Cultural Centre in Male today and wished them good luck. During his interaction, High Commissioner Mishra stated that the High Commission would provide more exposure and training opportunities to Maldivian artists in future. He said such exchanges are vital in enhancing the already strong cultural ties between India and Maldives. The artists and the craftswomen thanked the High Commissioner for his support.
India and Maldives share close historic and cultural ties. Under the bilateral cultural agreement between the countries, the High Commission of India has been promoting cultural interaction and people-to-people contacts through exchange of Indian and Maldivian cultural groups. Indian cultural groups regularly visit Maldives and similarly many Maldivian troupes are invited to perform at premier cultural festivals in India like Surajkund International Arts and Crafts festival, South Asian Bands festival etc.
