State to press legal action over corruption accusations against President Yameen: Spokesperson
Presidential Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali revealed that the state will press for legal action over the accusations that President Yameen had been complicit and directly benefited from the illegal sales of under review Government agency, Maldives Marketing Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Spokesperson Muaz said that the issue had been filed with relevant agencies to investigate. He had refuted the allegations made in some local registered publications.

“Those cheques in question are not connected to the President,” he said.

“The President’s Office is not an investigative body, the Office has no legal grounds to investigate the authenticity of the said cheques. The cheques in question are attributed to MMPRC. Therefore, there is no connection to the Office or the President,” he added.

Muaz noted that Raajje.mv had made the allegations that the cheques had been deposited to the President’s personal accounts.

“The state is prepared to file the case in the relevant bodies and go to court to shut down the false allegations on the President, especially in registered as local media,” Muaz added.

He further said the case had been filed with the relevant authorities, including the Police, and once investigated, will be filed for prosecution. Muaz added that a media spreading such allegation was extremely unprofessional of the profession of journalism.

Muaz further stated that the current Government will not chase behind media. However, he urged the media licensing bodies and regulatory bodies had to keep a stronger checks for various media.

“Publishing from an anonymous id on social media and publishing through registered media is vastly different. This issue is a serious one as conflicting messages have been passed over to the public due to the issue,” he said.
