Visiting scholar of Malaysia’s Malaya University’s Sharia and Law Department’s Academy of Islamic Studies Professor Dr. Ahmed Hidhayath bin Buang stated that ideological differences in Islam did not warrant conflicts.
He made the statement in his sermon delivered on Sunday night as part of “The Message” series conducted by the Islamic Ministry. Professor Hidhayath said that it was regrettable that Islamic nations were warring over differences in the ideologies associated with Islam. He noted that the Islamic ummah was one. However, in spite of this, most of the Islamic nations were in various conflicts and in dire poverty.
Professor lamented on the current status of the Islamic nation, citing with the lack of innovation and progress, Muslims were heavily reliant on the West.
The Professor further noted that this showed the level of division, poverty, lack of technology, security and safety. He added that Muslims were amongst the weakest in the world.
As such, the Professor said there were many issues that need to be resolved and that such issues rise from a lack of understanding of Islamic Sharia. Professor said that the issues can will be resolved by gaining a deeper understanding of Islam and following the principles of Islam.
He also said the various coups engineered to take power was a contributing factor in the weakening of the Islamic nation.
“Over 200,000 have died in Syrian Civil War. One million have been injured. Two million have been made refugees. This is not acceptable,” he said.
Professor added that an establishment of an Islamic nation was a good concept, however, a state cannot be created by bloodshed and inhumane actions.
The Professor noted that the individual differences between Muslims was the directly contributing factor in letting the enemies of Islam create additional divisions. Therefore, he urged all to adhere to Islamic values and to be aware of the issues facing the Muslims.
