The exhibition features the close relationship between the two nations, focusing on the imports and exports, such as seenuthashi, ambergris and cowrie shells.
The exhibition organizers said that the exhibit will showcase the economic, social, cultural and historical ties between China and the Maldives.
Speaking in the ceremony, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham said that the even though diplomatic ties between the two countries are over 30 years old, the relationship is far older and stronger.
She noted that President Abdullah Yameen placed extreme importance on further strengthening the ties with China. Dr. Shiham added that the relationship was based on mutual trust and cooperation.
“We receive Chinese assistance in all the projects President Yameen had started for the betterment and development of the Maldivians. The Airport Development project and the bridge project, all Presidential pledges, are signs of this. Major Chinese companies are investing in Maldivian tourism,” Dr. Shiham said.
“Today China is the biggest partner in Maldivian development. China has been assisting Maldivian development for years. The ties between the two nations are over 1300 years,” she said.
Dr. Shiham said that the findings were made after historical documents were recovered recently. She further said that the ages old relationship, based on cultural and business ties can be seen in the exhibit.
Speaking in the exhibit, Ambassador Wang Fukang also noted that the close relationship can be seen in the exhibit as well.
