An agreement has been signed between the Government of Maldives and India’s Medtrina Hospital to open the first cardiac center in IGMH.
The center is set to be opened in February.
Under the agreement the Government of Maldives will provide the infrastructure to create the hospital, which is worth MVR 7.5 million. Medtrina Hospital will supply machinery and other resources to the hospital.
Speaking in the ceremony, IGMH CEO, Brigadier General (Rtd) Farhath Shaheer said that the cost effectiveness for IGMH was one of the key considerations for the project. He said that work was carried out by the Hospital to create such a center but had been postponed due to various reasons.
Farhath noted the rapid increase of Maldivians diagnosed with cardiac issues, citing that it was deeply concerning that this issue had not been addressed in the 20 years IGMH had been in operation. He added that the center will be run under the guidance issued by IGMH Governing Board and experts.
Medtrina Hospital Managing Director Dr. Prathab stated that the Hospital operates 13 such centers in the region, focusing on areas with less than adequate resources. He added that cardiac issues needed immediate attention and traveling can pose risks at that stage.
Dr. Prathab commended the Government for their initiative and congratulated IGMH for achieving a milestone. He added that the Centre will be in operation next February.
