Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier Flynas has resumed scheduled flights to the Maldives, re-establishing direct air connectivity between Riyadh and Velana International Airport (VIA) and providing a further boost to tourism from the Middle East.
The airline’s first flight following the relaunch of the route arrived at VIA on June 20 and was welcomed with a ceremonial water salute. Passengers were also greeted with a traditional Maldivian reception featuring vibrant Boduberu performances, while commemorative gifts were presented to both arriving and departing passengers to mark the special occasion.
According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Flynas will operate three weekly flights between King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Velana International Airport, creating additional travel options and strengthening ties between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
MACL described the resumption of the service as an important step in enhancing connectivity between the two countries and supporting the continued growth of tourism and business travel. The company noted that Saudi Arabia remains an increasingly important market for the Maldivian tourism industry, and the return of Flynas is expected to contribute to higher visitor arrivals from the region.
The renewed operations will also provide travellers with greater access between the Maldives and the wider Middle East, supporting growing demand for direct and convenient air travel.
As the operator of the country’s main international gateway, MACL said it remains focused on expanding VIA’s network of airline partners and attracting additional international carriers to the Maldives. The company emphasized its commitment to improving connectivity, enhancing passenger experiences, and supporting the sustainable development of the nation’s aviation and tourism sectors.
The return of Flynas marks another positive milestone in the Maldives’ efforts to diversify its tourism source markets and strengthen international air links, further reinforcing the country's position as one of the region’s leading travel destinations.
