The Maldives is set to host the upcoming Asia Media Summit, with international delegates and media representatives now arriving in the country for the regional gathering.
The annual summit is jointly organized by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and Public Service Media (PSM). The event will be held at Villa Nautica from 11 to 14 May and is expected to attract over 200 participants from across the Asia-Pacific region, including leading figures from the broadcasting and media industry.
The theme selected for this year’s summit is “Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech”, highlighting the growing intersection between technological innovation and traditional media practices.
Preparatory work for the event is currently in its final stages. Ahead of the main summit, a series of five specialized workshops will be conducted on 11 May. The sessions will explore topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in journalism and storytelling, the expanding influence of AI technologies, preserving trust and credibility in modern media, and the role of media in addressing climate change challenges.
The summit’s official inauguration is scheduled for 12 May, followed by panel discussions and plenary sessions on 13 May. The program will conclude on 14 May with a coral planting activity at Kudagiri Picnic Island.
Organizers say the summit will serve as a platform to enhance collaboration among broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region, encourage dialogue on the future of responsible media, support industry development goals, and strengthen professional ties within the regional media community.
