Steady supply of bottled water would be made available until the crisis is resolved- President
President Abdulla Yameen Abduul Gayoom has reassured the Maldivian people that a steady and adequate supply of bottled water would be made available until the crisis is resolved.

In a statement issued today, President Yameen has appealed to the Maldivian public to remain patient and united, while working with the Government to resolve the national crisis, brought on by the fire that broke out at the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

In his statement, the President highlighted that a Task Force has been formed at the Ministerial level under his direct supervision.

Within this context, President Yameen commended the efforts of the Task Force in ensuring the prompt delivery of water to the residents of Male’ to meet their basic needs.

The President also stated that instructions had been issued to the Task Force to seek the assistance of, and oversee the efforts of the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force in delivering water throughout the Capital.

Concluding his statement, President Yameen expressed his gratitude to the Maldivian people for their patience and unity, during this challenging time.

The President also conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the Maldives Police Service, the Maldives National Defence Force, NGO’s, and independent businesses for working around the clock in assisting the Maldivian people to meet their basic needs. President Yameen further asserted that he is grateful to the Governments of India and Sri Lanka for promptly responding to his appeals for assistance.

In his statement, the President also thanked the Governments of both the United States and China for assuring their support to the Maldives during this national crisis.
