Accusations that there are radicals among the police and MNDF are baseless- Umar
Minister of Home Affairs, Umar Naseer has stated that the accusations made against the Police and the MNDF that there are radicals in their ranks are all lies.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Umar Naseer said that these accusations originate from some politician who want to create rifts and chaos to achieve their political motives.

He said that some of those who make such false accusations want media attention. He said that according to the Maldivian intelligence only 7 Maldivians are in Syria.

“IS have members from around the globe including citizens of the most powerful countries who have made a pact against the group. This includes USA, UK, Germany and other then them,” he said.

Umar Naseer said that Maldives also receives Intel and measures are taken based on those information.

He said that anyone suspected to be travelling to Jihad from any neighbouring countries are stopped and brought back. However, he noted that there are challenges when they cross the border.

“This is not something that only Maldives is incapable of. Rather the developed countries are also in the same situation,” he said.
