Maldives Media Council (MMC) has been required to hold a third round of elections as a means of determining an eighth member for the council.
The election has to be held for the third time as the election which was held on the 20th of November resulted in five members acquiring the same amount of votes of 28 and the election held yesterday between those five members resulted in two members coming to a draw.
Candidates Ahmed Rifau of Veekly and Hussein Hassan of Sun Online both received a total of 25 votes each. Home Ministry noted that hence, another election will be held on Wednesday as a means of establishing an eighth member for the MMC.
Although candidate Imaad Hassan of Vfm withdrew his name from yesterdays election, he received a vote as his name was still on paper.
Having gone into a third round, candidate Rifau stated that this gives him more strength and that with the blessings of Allah- he will be putting more exertion into winning the upcoming elections.
At the elections held on the 20th of November, the most number of votes was achieved by CEO of Vmedia- Mr. Mohamed Asif. Out of the 61 individuals who voted, a total of 53 votes were in Mr. Asif's favour.
