Malaysia will assist Maldives in various areas : PM Najib
Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razzaq have said that Malaysia will assist Maldives in various sectors.

While delivering a joint statement after the official discussions with President Yameen, PM Najib talked about the achievements of Maldives in developing the nation and praised Maldivians. He assured that Malaysia will assist Maldives in the developmental efforts.

He said that, he will provide training opportunities for Maldivian civil servants under the technical program of Malaysia. He said that Malaysia has various educational opportunities and noted that even now 1700 Maldivian students are studying in Malaysia. He said that the figure is increasing and noted that 65 of the students are studying medicine.

Prime Minister said that, Malaysia is a leading provider of Halal certificates and Halal tourism is one notable area of expertise. He said that Malaysia will assist Maldives in these fields. He said that he is happy that Malaysian companies are given opportunities in the construction industry of Maldives. “Especially I note the multi-story building of Finance Ministry. 122 million dollars is needed for the building and we want it to finish. This visit will facilitate the completion of this building” said the PM.

He also said that he is happy to know that Maldives takes Malaysia as an example in the efforts for economic development. He said that since both countries are Muslim countries, their stand on various issues are similar and said that even now both the countries are working together on many issues internationally.

PM Najib said that Malaysia is providing medical assistance to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and that Malaysia brought the matter into the attention of US officials. “They should be allowed to return to their homeland” said Najib. He said that US has agreed to their requests and now they are waiting for results.

Speaking about climate change he said that Malaysia is taking measures to mitigate climate change. He said that even now they have decreased carbon usage my 1.35 percent. Najib said that Malaysia is concerned about the problems faced by Maldives and other island nations due to climate change.

Najib said that Malaysia is ready to work with Malaysia and wished President Yameen all the best in the coming months. He also praised the natural beauty of Maldives and thanked Maldivians for their hospitality.
