Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has called the government to grant subsidies to those who have a right for it.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark speaking regarding the proposed state budget for next year at the Peoples’ Majlis. He said that subsidies are also currently given to those who are financially stable. He said that this has to come to a stop.
“Even now such subsidies are granted to those who do not deserve them. So subsidies should be given to those who deserve it and have a right for it. This should be found by the respected authorities in this regard,” he said.
“My question is when I turn 65 years of age should I be also given the MVR 5000? No, this is not how it should be,” he said.
He said that there are many services that should be given by the government to the people and this can be only done effectively by planning and research.
Gasim said that this should be done even with regards to giving subsidies. He reiterated that the system should be strengthened and subsidies should be only given to those in need’
