Vice President, Dr Mohamed Jameel Didi has said that the biggest hope of the people is to witness the perfectness of the post.
Vice President, Dr. Jameel made this remark speaking at the conference held at Traders Hotel on Strengthening the Criminal Justice System of the Maldives.
He said that that the justice sector is not progressing at an ideal pace and that there are several areas that require reform. As an example he pointed out that criminals appears to be escaping punishment by taking advantage of loopholes in the system.
One of the flaws according to the Vice President is the current application of the right of silence in the country.
According to Dr. Jameel the right as practiced in modern democracies does not prevent investigators from asking questions from the suspect. However in the Maldives the Vice President believes suspects are allowed to refrain from speaking altogether by invoking the right to silence.
