Makunudhoo constituency MP Anara Naeem has called the authorities to expedite the process of taking the testimonies required for the prosecution in courts of law.
Anara Naeem made this remark at the plenary debate held yesterday at the Peoples’ Majlis on the Bill on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters tabled on behalf of the government by Mohamed Ameeth, MP for Maduvvari.
MP Anara said that the slow speed of the process of taking testimonies and presenting them at court is one of the biggest challenges faced by the judiciary.
She said that this caused in conflict of the testimonies, testifiers forgetting the details or sometimes they change their mind to give the testimony.
Anara said that this has resulted in criminals including dangerous criminals being set loose in the society to commit their crimes.
She underscored the importance of establishing are more efficient system to take testimonies.
Anara said that the religion of Islam also calls to a speedy process regarding prosecution of crimes.
