Flyme brings new airplane

Villa Air’s air carrier “Flyme” has received a new passenger airplane on Wednesday, bringing the fleet’s total to 5.

The ATR72-600 model airplane was brought in from Billun, Denmark, and flown in under the supervision of a captain from Denmark, as well as a Maldivian Flyme captain.

The airplane landed at 3:58 afternoon at Maamigili International Airport.

A special ceremony was held at the airport to receive the airplane.

Managing Director of Villa Air Ridwan Shareef informed the press that the company is trying to bring another plane next year to add to the Flyme fleet.

He said that Villa Air aims to give quality services to the local and foreign passengers travelling around the country.

Ridwan expressed gratitude to the founder and Chairman of Villa Air, Gasim Ibrahim for his cooperation and assistance in achieving this aim of the company.

Gasim Ibrahim and many of the people of Maamigili and staff of Villa Air participated in the event held to receive the airplane.

Villa Air was incorporated in 1997 by the Chairman of Villa Group Gasim Ibrahim with a vision to build an airport and to create an airline, baptized later FlyMe, owned by Villa Group. Villa Air/FlyMe had its maiden flight on October 1st 2011 between Villa Airport Mamigili (VAM) and Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. The beginning of commercial operations of FlyMe to VAM creates a 24/7 safe and convenient air corridor between Male International Airport and south Air Atoll. Today Villa Group is the proud owner of the only ICAO Certified (Domestic/Private) airport in Maldives.
