Jumhooree Party leader and Maamigili constituency MP, Gasim Ibrahim has stated that he does not consider the introduction of an increase of import duty, bed tax and tourism tax to be positive, stating that it would have an adverse effect on tourism.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark debating in Peoples’ Majlis regarding reformation of the Tourism Act.
Gasim said that the increase of import duty, bed tax and tourism tax will have an adverse effect on tourism.
Gasim emphasized that the result will be detrimental if we are to take advantage of everything.
In addition to this, Gasim expressed his approval of the proposed reformation of Tourism Act by the government stating that introducing the Green tax will be advantageous for the country’s economy.
Gasim said that it is important to look into the negative impact of any taxes that are to be introduced. “Perhaps, no, there will be positive and negative issues in everything. Even if we want to generate money, we will have to look into both sides and weigh them,” he said.
