President Abdulla Yameen has said that the Maldives did not get any foreign aid for a period of eight months because of the damages caused by a few Maldivians to the nation deliberately.
The President made this remark while speaking at the function held on Thursday evening to celebrate a successful 365 days in office.
President Yameen said that he joined office as the President of Maldives at a very difficult time. He said that one of the biggest problem was the doubts of sovereignty since the presidency of Dr. Mohamed Waheed.
He said that the current government had to exert much efforts to resolve the problems caused by how many foreign organizations were treating the nation during that time.
“We have witnessed the harm caused by various foreign organizations. We have witnessed the influences they tried to cause into the internal affairs of Maldives,” he said.
“My highest priority is to ensure national security, and the security of all Maldivians. Protecting the people from violent crimes and atrocities is the main goal of this Government. Insha’Allah we will attain this goal”, the President stated in his speech.
Continuing on, President Yameen stated that the Government would show no mercy for those that slaughter Maldivians without mercy, and pledged that it would not hesitate to enforce the death penalty against those individuals. The President asserted that such actions by the Government were necessary in order to safeguard the dignity and collective rights of the Maldivian people.
Within this context, President Yameen stated that every Maldivian has the right to live without fear or intimidation, and underlined the high priority afforded by his Administration to maintaining peace and stability in the country.
