Spokesperson of the government, Ibrahim Muaz Ali has said that if a person has oppressed another person or people and accepts his mistake then it is upon him to ask the oppressed for forgiveness.
Muaz made this remark speaking to Miadhu Daily in view of the recent remarks of former President Mohamed Nasheed regarding the arrest of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla. Nasheed stated that the arrest was an incorrect decision he took at the request of some ministers.
Muaz said that Nasheed’s confession that it was a mistake is a good sign. However, he said that it is not correct to put the blame on others while Nasheed kept him under arrest for 22 days and 22 nights.
Muaz said that Nasheed gave a deaf ear to all the legal professionals in the country who requested Nasheed to release Judge Abdulla and that his arrest was unlawful.
“Kulhudhufushi Dhekunu MP Nasheed and the President of the Special Majlis Gasim Ibrahim and other than them tried to talk sense in to President Nasheed,” he said.
Muaz said that when those who claim to be vanguards of human rights violate the human rights and confesses to it then it is upon such people to seek forgiveness from the oppressed and also take the rightful punishment for it by going to court.
“I do not want to respond to all that which the former President Nasheed states. However this issue is related to the pulse of many people. This has caused lot of pain to the people and the nation,” he said.
