Gasim Ibrahim requests a US$ 3 billion loan assistance
The Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has requested the World Bank for a US$ 3 billion loan assistance to alleviate the financial problems faced by Maldives.

Gasim Ibrahim made this request at the meeting of the Economic Committee of the Majlis with the visiting delegates from the World Bank.

Gasim stressed that this financial assistance is very important to resolve the financial problems faced by the country.

In addition to this, Gasim said that tax is not something new. He said that only a little was added to the state budget as duty.

He said that the government has been doing much good for the development of the country. He informed the World Bank delegates of the state of Maldives.

Meanwhile, the World Bank claims that the Maldives’ economy is at risk due to excessive state expenditure. It was stated that Short-term budget financing measures such as selling T-bills and printing money poses risks such as the devaluation of the rufiyaa, while unpaid bills could disrupt basic services such as electricity.
