Kinbidhoo constituency MP, Abdulla Riyaz has said that the necessary researches and feasibility studies should be conducted before introducing any taxes.
Speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis, Abdulla Riyaz said that the state will have to generate the money to spend on the different expenditures of the state and this includes taking different taxes. However if a new tax is to be introduced, then the necessary feasibility studies should be conducted, he said.
In this regard, MP Abdulla Riyaz said that the green tax that is being introduced should not be introduced except by doing a risk assessment.
“We are trying to introduce the green tax without any prior assessments, according to what I have been informed.
Meanwhile, Jumhooree Party leader, Maamigili constituency MP Gasim Ibrahim recently also said that taking taxes without any research may lead to the crippling of the economy of the nation.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark in view of the efforts of the government to increase more taxes and to increase the tax rates. He said that this might lead to many economic difficulties if this is done without any research.
Gasim said that this research should be done if it is not already conducted. He said that he is proposing this to save the country from any imminent economic dangers that these taxes might cause.
The Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad said that no such research have been conducted regarding the green tax to be taken from tourists. However, he said that the government have discussions with many people regarding the tax.
