India is the biggest partner of Maldives- Govt
The government has stated that the biggest partner of Maldives is India.

In a press conference held at the President’s Office by the Economic Committee, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Shainee said that the relationship between Maldives and India is a tie of brotherhood.

He said that the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, in his message to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during the occasion of the Republic day, stated that India and Maldives enjoy close and cordial relations based on mutual trust and cooperation.

Dr. Shainee said that the relationship between the two continues to expand and strengthen further to the mutual benefit of our peoples.

He said that another country participating in some developmental projects will not have any impact on the relationship between India and Maldives.

Dr. Shainee expressed his gratitude to India for importing food and other important items to Maldives.

He also noted that the President’s first official visit was for India. “The first to meet was the President of India. Many agreements were signed. Visa problem was resolved,” he said.
