In the first year of the current government, the Health Sector of Maldives has achieved remarkable successes despite the many challenges faced by the sector.
In this regard, a press conference was held at Velaanage to brief the press about the achievements of the Health Ministry in the past days.
The acting Health Minister, Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim said that the appalling health sector has been rectified and great achievements have been reached by the current government in the past year.
Minister Nazim said that the government is working to develop the health sector even further. He said that there is still that needs to be rectified in the health sector.
He said that there are about 7090 health service staffs and 1722 are foreigners. He said that 277 new jobs have been generated for locals including local nurses. He said that this also includes 13 medical officers, 3 specialists and 18 laboratory technicians.
The Minister said that 212 doctors were recruited this year and 280 medical offers are currently working in Maldives. He also said that there are 82 specialist doctors.
