Kinbidhoo constituency MP, Abdulla Riyaz has said that crime should be curbed in the society to maintain peace and stability of the nation.
He said that this can be accomplished by including rehabilitation and educational programs within the punishments given to criminals.
Speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis regarding the government’s amendment to the Drug Act, Abdulla Riyaz said that he has worked to provide training programs and educational programs to convicts while they are in jail.
“I believe that the process should continue. I believe that it is how it should be done. I do not believe that stability and peace can be achieved by releasing convicts based on a list sent by a politician,” he said.
He said that he is a believer in giving second chance to the youth. He said that without the stability and peace maintained there will be no benefit in a state budget regardless how big it is.
Abdulla Riyaz added that the economy of a country will also will be developed and rectified only be maintaining the peace and security of the country.
