Kaashidhoo constituency MP Faisal Naseem has stated that there is no benefit in spending large amounts of money to operate name-sake rehabilitation centers to rehabilitate drug addicts.
MP Faisal Naseem made this remark speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis yesterday regarding the amendment submitted to the Drug Act. He said that the policy of the current government to rehabilitate drug addicts back to society as responsible citizens can only be actualized by rectifying the situation of the rehabilitation centers in Maldives.
“We should believe that there are many centres established throughout the country under various names. A large amount of money have been spent by the government on these centers. These centers need to be redeveloped and maintained more efficiently to meet the demands to rehabilitate drug addicts,” he said.
He said that such a center is operated in Fuahmulah but he has heard only complains regarding the center during his last visit to the place.
“Therefore I urge the government to rectify the situation of these places. We should make a renewed effort to bring these youth back to the society and responsible individuals,” he said,
