Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim has said that the people of Maldives will never accept to sell their independence and sovereignty.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark speaking at this remark speaking at the campaign rally of Coalition candidate for Kashidhoo seat in the upcoming Peoples’ Majlis election.
He said that those who claim to be the vanguards of democracy tried to sell the country to foreign parties during their regime. He emphasized that the people of Maldives will never want to repeat this ever in the Maldives.
Gasim noted that democracy was introduced to Maldives with the effort of many people. He said that the whole nation will know that his efforts were pivotal to bring democracy to Maldives. He emphasized that he did not base his activities on the street to bring democracy to Maldives however he said that he made all his efforts in accordance to democratic principles.
Gasim said that it is unfortunate that some people who claim to be the vanguards and champions of democracy used it as a farce to sell the independence, sovereignty and the public assets of the Maldivian nation to foreigners and thereby tainted the beautiful image of Maldives and Maldivians in the international community.
He emphasized that he has always worked for the betterment of the people and the nation and have always advocated for their rights. He said that it was in this same spirit that he worked tirelessly to pass the Green Constitution.
The Jumhooree Party leader assured that the current government is a sincere government which would work truly and sincerely for the betterment of the nation. He said that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom takes his responsibility in the coalition spirit.
Meanwhile, he also underscored the importance of electing members for the Peoples’ Majlis who will work with the government and cooperate with the government in developing the country instead of obstructing all development projects initiated by the government. He said that the people should consider this when they cast their votes in the upcoming Majlis election.
Gasim urged all people to support the candidates running in the election from the tickets of the government coalition and elect them in the election.
