Maamigili constituency MP and the leader of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim has said that it is appropriate for the government to make changes to ongoing projects, they should be held accountable for finding the solutions for those who are affected by those changes.
He made this remark at the Majlis requesting the government to find a solution to the Gulhifalhu issue where owners of apartments are still waiting on the flats to be granted to them even after payments have been made.
Gasim stated that while 216 individuals had made these payments, the government has not given them any rationale as to why they have not been granted their respectable apartments, leaving them in distress of becoming homeless and penniless.
He added that payments were made for the apartments under the previous government’s knowledge and noted that they were well aware of the company taking that money from those individuals.
In addition to this, Gasim noted that under the Independence and Basic Rights Chapter of the Constitution, the government is obliged to do so.
He also expressed his concern and questioned if there was any value or purpose of presenting more Bills to parliament when the ones which have already been presented have been left unattended without finding necessary solutions.
