Indian High Commissioner in Maldives Rajeev Sahare has said that India and Maldives enjoys a very closer.
He made this remark the ceremony held to mark “India-Maldives Friendship Day” and to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of India-Maldives Diplomatic Relations.
The High Commissioner stated that although Maldives got her independence on July 26, the diplomatic relations between the two countries was established later on October 1. He said that it was delayed because of the unrest in India during that time.
“It is not a problem. On October 1st it was just announced officially. Even before that India and Maldives were close friends,” he said.
Rajeev Sahare said that all of the assistance provided by India is not announced openly and India is attending every request of the Maldives.
“There are many things that are not announced. We are doing everything that Maldives requests for. However these are known because they are not announced in public,” he said.
He said that the relationship between India and Maldives is much more than any diplomatic relation between any two countries.
Rajeev Sahare noted that governments will change but the people will remain.
“The relationship between the two countries remains intact because of the people of the two countries,” he said.
He also reiterated that the new Prime Minister has a special focus on Maldives.
