The cabinet has adviced President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to execute the death penalty using lethal injection in Maldives.

The cabinet adviced President Yameen to establish regulations for the execution of the death penalty using “lethal injecton.”

The cabinet adviced the President with this as per article 132 of the constitution which states that “the members of the Cabinet shall comply with all the provisions of the Constitution and the law, and shall faithfully discharge the responsibilities assigned to them by the President, including the following: (a) to recommend to and assist the President in determining the general policies of the State, and to supervise and implement those policies in all areas of government activity, in accordance with the Constitution and the law.”

In this regard, the cabinet adviced the President that there is no legal obstruction in implementing the death penalty. The cabinet noted that murders and organized crime have increased in the country for the past five years.
