Vilimaafannu constituency MP, Ahmed Nihan Hussein Manik has said that the government should take responsibility of the issue of the two dangerous convicts who escaped from Maafushi prison.
Nihan made this remark speaking at yesterday’s hearing if the Peoples’ Majlis.
Speaking at the debate on the on the Urgent Motion tabled by Hon. Imthiyaz Fahmy, MP for Maafannu-North, in accordance with Article 145 of the Regulation Governing the Proceedings of the People’s Majlis, Nihan said that the government should never let the hearts of the people be filled with terror and the government should do whatever it takes to find these two culprits.
Nihan assured that the government will control the situation and take back the prisoners to the prison with the help of Islam.
He said that escaping prisons is something that happens even in other countries including developing countries.
Meanwhile, the Urgent Motion called on the Government to prioritize the hunt for two escaped convicts, in addition to ensuring that such incidents do not occur, and to find a solution to the ensuing environment of oppression and fear in Maldives.
Fifty three Members of Parliament voted unanimously to accept the Urgent Motion for debate. 17 Members spoke during the time allocated for debate.
