Maldives Police Service has revealed that Police officers have been stationed in Maafushi prison since last night.
According to the website of Maldives Police Service, Police officers were stationed at the prison to increase the security of the prison.
Police noted that the officers will only be assisting the staff of correctional staff only when their assistance is required.
Maldives Police Service took this decision following the escape of two dangerous criminals, murder convict Ibrahim Shahum Adam of G. Kozi, K. Male’ and Fariyash Ahmed of Jawahirwadi of Gaafu Alif Maamendhoo.
Police are searching for the culprits with the cooperation of the staff of correctional service and Maldives National Defence Force.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Umar Naseer said that the two prisoners who escaped from Maafushi jail will be returned to the jail.
In a tweet sent out by the Home Minister, he stated that every prison escape is an opportunity for Prison Officers to identify the loop holes and improve the system while they hunt them down.
