Minister of Fisheries and agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Shainee has said that the current government wants to help the farming industry and uphold the industry.
Speaking at Dharubaaruge Rannabandeyri Hall, Dr. Shainee said that the easiest thing that can be done in the name of developing the farming industry is giving subsidies. However, he said that the most needed benefit can be achieved by working with the farmers.
Dr. Shainee said that the farmers are doing an important job while at the comfort of their own island or nearby islands.
He underscored the importance of prioritizing growing crops that were most suitable for the Maldives to increase our food security and reduce the quantity of imported food items.
An insurance scheme was introduced to cover the damages caused by natural disasters.
The Minister stated that the interest of farming loans will be lesser than the interest of all other loans granted.
He said that an announcement will be made next week to grant an additional loan of 19 million Ruffiya
