Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel has said that the aim of the government is to make Maldives an ideal society in the region which promotes and preserves human rights.
He made this remark speaking at the ceremony held to launch an awareness program on the works of the Ministry of Gender and Law.
The Vice President reiterated that the Ministry of Law and Gender was established by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to oversee all government functions related to families, children, women, people with special needs, and human rights.
Dr. Jameen stated that the government understands the importance of improving the rights of children with special needs and on the empowerment of women. He said that the government is doing much in this regard to implement this.
In his speech, Vice President also noted the initiatives currently being undertaken by the Government to promote Islamic principles and faith among the school children.
The Vice President stated that he believes that creating procedures necessary for the framework to protect women and children will be a positive step towards preventing sexual assaults and human rights abuse.
