If the PG and courts finish the cases of the past three years then crime rate will decrease- CP

Commissioner of Police Hussein Waheed has said that if the Prosecutor General’s Offrice and the courts prosecutes and finishes the cases of the past three years then the crime rate will decrease.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, the commissioner said that the crime is perpetrated by the same people and according to statistics they are about 4500 to 5000 people.

“So if the three years cases are prosecuted and the court phase is completed and the culprits are punished by law then the crime rate will definitely drop,” he said.

Hussein Waheed said that peace and stability will be restored by punishing the criminals as per law.

“The problem of the increase in crime will be resolved if these cases are given priority and they are prosecuted with the cooperation of both the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Courts,” he said.

According to these statistics, the number of cases concerning illicit narcotics has increased in 2014 by 13.6%, numbered at 461 in January, 266 in February, 372 in March and 302 in April.

Maldives Police Service’s Drug Enforcement Department and Police Officers working in several atolls as well as Police Intelligence in collaboration with Male’ City Police Officers are continuously working to save the country from illicit narcotics and its trade.

The number of cases filed as well as the cases of confiscating illicit narcotics increasing shows the increased effort of Police in their fight against the drug trade as well as the progress that is being made.

Police are continuously working to protect the country from illicit narcotics, and as such Police are working together with families, NGOs, Island Councils, Atoll Councils, City Councils, general citizens and various associations in order to achieve that goal.
