MDP condemns arson attack on Hithadhoo MDP office and unrest caused in MDP rally

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has condemned the arson attack on Addu City Hithadhoo MDP office at 11:30 and the unrest caused in MDP public rally in Feydhoo by masked men.

The party called the authorities to bring the culprits behind these crimes to justice and given them the right punishment according to law.

In a press release of MDP, the party stated that these crimes perpetrated against the party are a violation of the constitutional right to political activity and freedom of speech.

MDP stated that these crimes are happening because some opposition groups are encouraging violence against the party because of its fame.

The party stated that the people are living in fear in the society because of such acts and the violence to achieve political agendas has now been restarted in the Maldives again.

“Such crimes are not only physical but also psychological attacks to create fear and intimidation. The party will continue its activities without any hesitation regardless of these attacks,” the party stated.

16 people have been apprehended so far regarding the case however 9 have been released.
