Teachers Association of Maldives (TAM) has stated that it is a shame that teachers with masters degree do not get a salary of even MVR 10000.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, the President of TAM, Athif Abdul Hakeem said that many have been complaining regarding this. He said that there is no use of these degrees and certificates if an appropriate salaries are not given.
“When the teachers with masters degree come home with their salaries, their family say what is the use of this masters if you do not even get at least MVR 10000. This is a shame. A normal teacher gets about MVR 7000. A principal with his extra hours and other allowances gets MVR 15000. A civil servant gets much more than that,” he said.
Athif said that it is the teachers who act as the second parents of the students till they are 18 years of age. He said that it is sad that this painstaking sacrifices of the teachers are not given any value in the current society.
