Dhiraague has announced to send children with special needs to compete in regional sports competitions that they are able to participate.
Assistant Manage, Public relations of Dhiraagu, Imjad Jaleel said that the children to be sponsored to participate in regional competitions will be selected in the ‘Special Sports Festival'.
“There will be events that even Maldivian children with special needs can also participate in regional sports competitions. Dhiraagu wants to open that opportunity,” he said.
Imjad Jaleel said that about 200 children will be participating in the ‘Special Sports Festival’ of Dhiraagu to be held this month. He said that 75 percent of them are children with special needs and teachers and aid workers are working non-stop to train the students.
Jaleel revealed that such a festival is being held to create individuals who would be good enough to compete in national, and international events in the future. He further revealed that the festival is not a competition between the participants, but a platform to recognize and develop the skills of the disabled children.
“Special Sports Festival 2011” will take place on Sat, 1/10/11 at Henveryru Football Ground from 4.00- 6.00pm.
This is a new initiative by Dhiraagu in collaboration with Care Society, planned as an annual event with a focus on helping to advocate for children with special needs and providing opportunities for the children to participate in sports activities.
