Former Commissioner of Police, Abdullah Riyaz has called on the Police to make it their aim to protect citizens as per the Constitution
Speaking to Miadhu, as the individual who started the Police Memorial Day and the Memorial Monument, Abdullah Riyaz said the day was marked so the public was reminded of the sacrifice of those who had died in line of duty and to honor their sacrifice and to give support to the families of the deceased.
Riyaz said that Police today have to give priority to fulfill their national mandate.
"Police have to follow their laws. They have to implement their laws above any command they get,
Abdullah Riyaz said that Police had earned a bad name over the years due to some unfortunate incidents in the past and appealed to the officers to refrain from such actions.
A police officer was implicit in the framing of former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, having smuggled in a gun to the ex-Minister's residence.
