Will turn southern transport link to a profitable one: Junaid.
MDP CEO Mohamed Junaid has stated that even though the Southern Transport Link was kicked off with a huge loan, he was sure that this will yield him profits.

Junaid said with the salaries, transportation and other associated costs, based on a staff of 150 employees, significantly increased the losses to just over MVR 19 million.

Junaid said the 100 bed guesthouse will be developed to offset this loss. He added that he had asked the President for land to build the guesthouse, which had already been cleared.

“The Dhoogas facility in Gan was leased as subsidy. If I was in charge of Dhoogas, I will create an artificial beach and change into one of those Medinas the President speaks of. If this is carried out then we can make money,” he said.

He added that the modern restaurant and tuck shops will be opened in Hulhumeedhoo port area, with MPL managing the area.

Junaid said that all these will ensure the town had jobs, serenity, peace and affordable access to health care. He also said that MPL would earn quite well.

He said that his focus was now service provision, without any halts to the service. Junaid pledged to make the transport link a profitable and affordable one.

“I only want to serve this Government, that can only be done by serving the public’s needs and wants. I will rest when the service is sustainable, affordable and a profitable one,” he said.

Junaid concluded by stating that currently150 are employed, with the number expected to increase by 250 once the service is fully provided.
