Islamic University’s Vice Chancellor and former Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that there was little to no concern over the number of Muslims dying everyday, prey to wars started on no legal basis.
He made the statement in response to the criticisms issued by Dr. Tariq Ramadan on the judiciary.
Dr. Shaheem said that Maldives is at the receiving end of much criticism for the proposed implementation of death penalty in the country. He said that this was more concerning given that other major nations were implementing death penalty on a regular basis. He added that this was even more concerning that people were concerned about death penalty when Muslims were perishing by hundreds in nations like Syria.
“This is the way the world is. When calling for injustice, they have to check whether if their actions were just as well,”
Dr. Shaheem said the President fully supported strict implementation of Islamic Shariah, in spite of challenges pushed on by foreign parties. He said that implementing death penalty was just and a way to ensure justice was granted to the next of kin. He added that this was a right granted under Islamic shariah to all Muslims.
