Maamigili Airport breaks world records
Maamigili International Airport is celebrating its third anniversary.
Maamigili Airport has broken many world records. This includes it being a private airport developed on reclaimed land.
The owner of the airport established his own airline and now operates the airport. And the airport is the first developed airport by a private company.
A sea port is also developed in the island by the same company. The owner, Gasim Ibrahim also reclaimed land of the island and increased the land mass of the island and gave land plots to the islanders.
Maamigili Airport, is located on the island of Maamigili in Alif Dhaal Atoll (also known as Ari Atholhu Dhekunuburi) in the Maldives and was opened on October 1, 2011 as a domestic airport. It was upgraded to an international airport on March 1, 2013.
The airport resides at an elevation of 6 feet (2 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 09/27 with a concrete surface measuring 1,800 by 30 metres (5,906 ft × 98 ft).
