Ooredoo receives commercial license for its Mobile Money services in the Maldives, following a successful trial
Ooredoo Maldives is proud to announce the commercial launch of Ooredoo Mobile Money services, connecting local communities across the Maldives to a convenient, easy and secure solution that enables customers to manage monetary transactions through a simple mobile phone.

Ooredoo piloted their mobile money services in the Maldives in March 2016, and carried out a successful trial for a limited number of customers, in order to ensure the highest levels of reliability and security for customers, in accordance with all regulatory requirements from Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) The company received its commercial license for mobile money services from MMA this afternoon. With the commercial launch, Ooredoo Mobile Money services is now available to customers across the Maldives, on any local network.

Mobile Money services allows customers to carry out monetary transactions such as depositing and withdrawing money, transferring cash, paying utility bills, topping up their prepaid accounts etc., from anywhere, and at any time, using a simple mobile phone. Ooredoo Mobile Money services are carried out through a mWallet; a virtual account tied to each customer’s mobile number and valid identification card. Mobile Money customers can easily use the service on any mobile phone using the company’s new mobile application named “Mobile Money (Maldives)”, available on App Store for iOS users, and Google Play for Android users. Alternatively, customers can also access mobile money services via USSD service, simply by dialing *789#.

Complementing the service’s ease of use, Ooredoo customers will now be able to self-register via the mobile application, or through USSD service. Customers can also choose to visit the nearest Ooredoo Experience Center or any of Ooredoo Mobile Money Service Centers, to complete the registration process, and to deposit or withdraw cash. Local money transfers, top-up service and bill payments can be completed from anywhere across the world using Ooredoo’s mobile money service on customers phones.

In order to ensure a safe, secure, and widely accessible service, Ooredoo has partnered with key stakeholders including Maldives Monetary Authority, Maldives Islamic Bank, State Electric Company Limited, State Trading Organization, Everything Red, as well as key merchants such as ibay, Family Room Café, Riverside Café and Westore.
